Ben Hoskyns, ACA
After leaving Durham University Ben qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte & Touche. After a stint in their corporate finance division he joined the Commonwealth Development Corporation where he managed SME focussed venture capital funds in West Africa and the West Indies. On returning to the UK he worked in the corporate turnaround division of Ernst & Young. He joined Cleveland Biotech in April 2003 and succeeded Edward Winfield as Managing Director in January 2004.
Dr Anthony Brooke, B.Sc (Microbiology) Ph.D (Microbial Physiology & Biochemistry)
Tony, Cleveland Biotech's Development Director, is a microbial biochemist with over 20 years practical experience. After completing his PhD at Sheffield University he worked abroad for a number of years as an industrial microbiolgist. Returning to England he spent 10 years in the fermentation and chemical industries developing large scale microbial fermentation processes and specialising in aerobic and anaerobic treatment systems. He joined Cleveland Biotech in 1999.
Edward Winfield, BA (Oxon)
Edward, the Non-Executive Vice-Chairman, was a founder member of Cleveland Biotech and Managing Director until handing over that position to Ben Hoskyns in 2004. After Oxford he joined J&P Coats and spent most of his career with them running international operations. In 1987 he left what was then Coats Viyella to join a team setting up the mobile telephony company, Millicom. When this company was sold to Hutchisons in 1990, he briefly worked as a Management Consultant working on both Industrial and Local Government contracts before putting together the finance to start up Cleveland Biotech in 1993.
Kieran Hazley, BE C-Eng (TCD)
Kieran, a founder member of Cleveland Biotech, is one of the Company's Non-Exectuive Director. In 1974 he graduated from Trinity College, Dublin with a Civil Engineering degree. He spent his initial career working as a Civil Engineer mainly in the nuclear construction industry with companies such as Taylor Woodrow, CEGB, NNC and BNFL. In 1992 through contacts with Dr Manian he became aware of the development potential of biotechnology industries and became actively involved in the formation of Cleveland Biotech.
